Program Description:

Upon the completion of the CanSkate program, STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. It teaches these skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system.

JumpStart - is intended to introduce and fast track new skaters coming out of CanSkate who are interested in figure skating to the STARskate program. Minimum requirement is completion of Canskate level 4, 5 or 6 or skaters at the STAR 1 level with recommendation by a club professional. Skaters participate in group lessons for a specified time with a Club Professional. The cost of these lessons is included in the registration fee. In addition to group lessons provided, parents may hire a coach for private lessons if they wish. Though encouraged for further progression and instruction time, there is no obligation or requirement to do so. If private lessons are taken during group time, they should not interfere with or disrupt the progress of the group lesson. The skater may leave for a private lesson and rejoin the group session. However, the Club Professional may not be able to reiterate the missed portion. Skaters may take private lessons on a non-jumpstart time for the duration of the lesson. A skater is eligible to advance to the Junior Level upon recommendation by the Club Professional or having completed the STAR 1 level.

Skaters are expected to attend their off classes as part of their training.  These are included in your registration fee. Private lessons are booked directly with the coach of your choosing. See our link under Coaches for more information.
